Waiting for PR - Applied for Visitor extension

Hello!!
I just had to share my news. I am waiting for my PR, my file is in Ottawa. I had to apply for my visitor extension. I applied online yesterday. I just received the update that my extension has been approved TODAY. So it took one day!! I still need to receive my approval letter, but online it stated that it is approved. I requested one year, so hopefully they approved the year. I was shocked and very happy.

I was sooo very wrong!! I just found out that I had clicked on my last extension, not the current one. I guess they have the old one still on my file and I didn't click on the current one. I thought it was too good to be true. :-[ OMG!!! My boyfriend is totally laughing at me right now.

I apologize for posting this incorrect info. I did just get an update today and it said that my application is OPEN, no documents needed, so some good news there.

I feel like such an idiot! LOL

Yeah, it has file closed, no more documents required and at the bottom it says Approved. I still will receive a letter of approval and it will state how long they approved my extension for.

LOL!! I was looking at an old message for my last extension and that was why it said Approved. What a big dork I am!!
More waiting for me. haha

I know right? I can't believe what a dork I am. I feel pretty dumb!!

We live in Brantford, Ontario. We are about an hour away from Toronto airport.

LOL!! Yeah, this whole process has made me a little kooky.

I commiserate. I just want AOR so at least I know they're not gonna send the thing back.. from that point forwards it seems like even with errors theyre single fixes.

I think you are safe. I have read that if they send it back it's usually in the first few weeks. Hopefully you will get it in a few weeks.

Oh Wow, I never even seen that. I just always apply online. I think the last time I applied for an extension it took a little less than a month. This time was crazy fast. I think it might have been because my PR application is in Ottawa being processed.
When did you mail your extension application in?

We mailed our extension in and it was received on Dec 11. According to website they are still processing apps received in August, so some waiting to go! We have applied Inland and have not yet received AOR, so lots of waiting!

I clicked on this thread because we need to apply for extension for my husband as well. I was wondering how long before the 6 month mark should we apply and what documents do we need. I guess I should dig deeper in the forum

Well the website says to apply 30 days before the visitor status expires. I did my extension correctly, just thought it was approved and it wasn't. Ha!!

If you have any questions I can help. Just because I read something wrong doesn't mean I don't know what I am doing. LOL

Thanks so much! We still have some time. He's been here for just over 3 months. To be honest, after I put together the whole application package just before Christmas, I don't even want to think about it haha

Course, we know ours is gonna get cancelled before they even get to it so that's all relative.

What happens, anyways? Like, should he hand in his VR at the airport? Or wait until he re-enters and give it + proof of application of extension to the customs guys and be like 'welp'

I think when you guys leave Canada for the US you probably won't need to show his VR. US customs probably won't need to see it.
When he re-enters Canada they will probably ask him why he is coming to Canada (what is his purpose?) Just be honest on your plans, you applied for PR and just had your honeymoon and he wanted to visit with you longer. I think when they scan his passport they will know he has a VR. I would just have every piece of paperwork to back up your explanation or reason for him wanting to
visit. Yes, he would have been on implied status while he was in Canada, but once he leaves it becomes null. They might ask about that.
It's hard to know how much info to offer up if the border agent doesn't ask. I do know that being honest about everything is always the way to go. I hear all the time to make sure you have proof of strong ties to your country, but I have never been asked to show any proof. Everyones's experience is so different.

I hope maybe one of the senior members can help give advice as well.
