I was married in Ontario last October. I applied for both of the marriage certificates maybe 5 days later and stated it was for immigration purposes. It took exactly the 10 weeks indicated on Service Ontario. Not a day sooner. On the notice that was sent with the certificates, it said my marriage was registered two days before I got the certificates in the mail. So at least it was prompt delivery after the 10 weeks were up? :/

For whatever reason, it seems some people get lucky but most of us are waiting the full time indicated by the government.

Hi Taffy,
I was wondering if you have received your marriage certificate by now. Or please update when you do. Just want to get an idea of current processing times, as we are also waiting for one.

Thanks,

Still don't have marriage certificate ,but i can now see on line that it is registered, so should be this week or next . That will make it 12 weeks .

Thanks for the update! Wow, so it really took the whole processing time indicated. Congratulations, and all the best. Hopefully, you can post here when you actually receive it.

Marriage certificate came today 11 weeks to the day .... :) :) :)

It's 10 weeks + 1 day. And now the status message has changed to
"Your application is still under review."

Before this, it always said that registration could not be found.

I also contacted the customer service, and they said that it will be mailed in the next 1 day!
So, it appears to me that even though the registration is complete, they just wait full 10 weeks before mailing it.

I got married on March 1st this year.
I got my certificate on March 14th.
Less than 10 business days. I faxed them a letter and my visa stamp (expiring in May) as proof of urgency. I applied for my certificate online on March 2nd and included my license number and my order number on the fax.

Here are the details of my fax to Service Ontario:

azarme09,that is the only way you are able to get the certificate quicker like you were able to do .For the rest of us who are applying outland or has a 6 or 12 month visitors visa it takes the full 10 weeks . It does state if you are being deported or visa is under review you can request for the marriage certificate quicker.Believe me i tried.

Hi all, I can confirm that this works!

I got married on Aug 9 2014, applied for the marriage certificate on Aug 29, faxed them the urgency request (see below) on Sep 2 and the request was processed on Sep 9 (it's currently on its way in the mail).

After reading azarme09's message I did the same: I copied and pasted the text of their fax, of course replacing our names, contacts and visa expiry dates. Then I attached my husband's visa, where it states the expiry date (Oct 5 2014) and his passport scan.

I didn't receive any reply from the Registrar's office, but they still accepted my request and processed it almost immediately.

Good luck everyone!

I can also confirm that sending this fax works. You have nothing to lose so try it.

We got married in Ontario November 8th and ordered the certificate 2 days later and got it 4 weeks later.

Find out who your mayor is in TO, and phone their office to inquire about whether they can help speed up the process for you by requesting the marriage cert on your behalf.
It's worth the phone call.

No, don't bother with this.

Hi!

Apply for it right after your wedding. Once it's ready, they will deliver it to you as soon as possible. It will take less than 8-12 weeks, don't worry. I got married in Ontario and I had it a month after my wedding. It arrived 3 days after I ordered it.

Good luck!
Sorry I got confused, because you said, "I had it a month after my wedding. Then again you said, "It arrived 3 days after I ordered it." what does it mean? How long should a couple wait for the marriage certificate after getting married?

It takes them about a month to register the marriage.
So if you order the day after your wedding, it will take about a month from order date.
If you order a month/year/decade after your wedding, it will take about 3 days from order date.
