Hi guys! I'm going to apply for PR thru CEC next week and this is my situation: I checked the wage report for Retail Manager NOC 0621 and the minimum wage report is $11.75.. I make $12 an hour because I just got promoted a year ago (meaning I don't have that much experience as a manager) … plus BONUS and other benefits.

Before I worked as a retail manager, I was a management trainee for 2 months which falls under NOC 0621 as well (this counts as part of my one year exp.). However, I got paid for only $10.75 per hour. I've checked the wage report for this and it seems like it has to be minimum $11.75 as well.

Is this something to be concerned about? I'm going to ask my employer to make a reference letter for me very soon. What shall we mention on my reference letter?

AFAIK for application under CEC, it is very important to have the right NOC code mentioned in the application and the respective reference letter indicating the job duties you have performed that match the NOC code, the wage / salary shouldn't be of any concern.

According to CIC there is no minimum wage requirement as long, as you have been paid a wage for the job you performed:

Does the one year of work experience to qualify under the Canadian Experience Class include non-paid employment? Is there a minimum wage requirement for qualifying employment?

Non-paid employment does not qualify under the Canadian Experience Class. You must have been paid a wage (or earned a commission) but there is no minimum wage requirement for your qualifying work experience.

Full-time work experience means working at least 30 paid hours per week. To qualify, you must have skilled work experience, meaning work in occupations listed at NOC Skill Type 0 (managerial), or NOC Skill Level A (professional occupations) or NOC skill Level B (technical and trade occupations).
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=665&t=6

But VO may rise concern if you really performed the job you described in reference letter if your wage is too low (I mean tooo low) for the job.

As far as I know, there is no requirement other than being over minimum wage. I wouldn't get too worried.

Thanks for the immediate response guys. Another thing that the VO might consider is I'm a holder of PGWP and this is my first year as a manager. I also make make commission which I will mention in the Reference Letter. I think I wouldn't put my hourly rate but declare my annual salary instead. What do you think? But for my experience as a management trainee for 2 months, how should I declare my wage for that?

My wage was around 14$ an hour as an account manager at a fortune 500 company before commission. You should have nothing to worry about. I think any experience if you can document it is helpful. From my view all they want to see is that you are making a taxable income so they can make money off of you. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

you have to prove that you are ready to establish youself and to support youself in Canada.
If you are making 12/h as a working holiday, I do understand it, but if you are making 12/h with Canadian education and a work permit for more than a year this is what I do not understand.
How do you not understand? People have different situations. Just because you might think 12$ isn't enough to live on, doesn't mean it isn't. That's why the minimum wage exists.

I earn commission as well so that's understable. Anyway, do I need to put my wage for my previous position as a Management trainee?

Well, your remuneration is either an hourly wage, or a salary, they are different. Your letter should accurately indicate how you are remunerated. If you are paid an hourly wage + commission, that is what you should put in the letter. You can ALSO include total earnings for the previous year (but don't confuse that with "salary").

What do you think? But for my experience as a management trainee for 2 months, how should I declare my wage for that?

The letter has to indicate all positions held. Treat it as a separate position, include all the required details (job title, NOC, start and end dates, hours worked per week, wage/salary/commission + benefits, and job duties). Doesn't matter that it's the same NOC.

And remember, the letter is from your EMPLOYER, not you : )

I pretty much have the same duties and job description for being a Store Manager and a Management Trainee (both NOC 0621). The only difference is the wage and slight difference on benefits. So I guess my employer could summarize the main duties for both jobs in the Reference Letter so as not to be repetitive ? ::)

Yes, that would be OK.
