Can International students with study permit work as a volunteer in 1 day events (Basic 5-6 hours shift) conducted in Toronto? For e.g. CIBC Canadian Breast Cancer Cure/United Way CN Tower Climb or Toronto Special events like Nuit Blanche? without having a need of work permit or taking permission from ESDC?

Hey when I was an International Student I was able to volunteer a few times without any issues. I even spoke with the international student center @ my school and they said it was okay as long as it was volunteering without pay. If you volunteer and you get paid, then that's work. So if you don't have an off campus work permit you can't take part in those paid events. Hope this helps.

Great. Bcoz i saw this crazy definition of work on cic and i was wondering. The volunteering that i have done is a 5-6 hours per Toronto events and it wasn't paid. So i guess its cool.

Did these volunteering hours helped you while applying for CEC?

volunteering doesnt count as experience in CEC
gotta be a paid and skilled job.
