Sorry for having another thread by me but I have another question. I should only have about 2 and a half months or so until I hear some news about AIP (hopefully it is good). I was looking into volunteering to help pass the next couple of months by quickly, to build friendships, and get some good experience for my resume later. My only question is I am concerned that the place I want to volunteer could be a problem since it does involve a medical condition.

As some of you have read in my other posts, my husband has Cystic Fibrosis. I was hoping to volunteer for the local CF chapter here. It is a place I know I would be very beneficial at as I know a lot about the disease and I know that helping to raise money gets us one step closer to finding a cure for my husband. My heart is really into volunteering here. I just know that there can be some strict guidelines to volunteering and want to make sure I am in the clear before I send my application into them.

Does anyone know if I would be okay to volunteer for them? Thank you very kindly.

I think you should maybe check with CIC first, I was told that my husband wasn't able to volunteer when we looked into it in the past. That was from an immigration lawyer, not sure if he was right or not. ???

No dear, he can volunteer he just has to make sure it falls under the right criteria.
And I would check with CIC but their agents probably know as much or as little as I do which isn't much. Thanks for the advice though.

You should also be aware that a Canadian police check may be required.

I was aware of that. But you don't need to be a PR for that, right?

That's a tough one to answer. This is what the website says for workers in Canada but I can't see anything about volunteering. They're saying you would need a medical check. is it the same for a volunteer situation? I would call the call centre but like you said I'm pretty sure they would be unsure themselves.

Occupations that bring you into close contact (more than three hours a day or risk of exchange of body fluids) with people, namely:
-workers in the health sciences field
-clinical laboratory workers
-patient attendants in nursing and geriatric homes
-medical students admitted to Canada to attend university
-medical electives and physicians on short-term locums
-teachers of primary or secondary schools or other teachers of small children
-domestics
-workers who give in-home care to children, the elderly and the disabled
day nursery employees

Its such a great idea Love! You love your husband so much it's beautiful :)

No.

I dont know where you are based, but you should search out stuff like this....

I just don't see how that could be the case unless you are talking about a different back ground check. Because there are some people that have to submit an RCMP background check and they are just going through the process. As well as many others volunteering during the process. Seems a bit off don't you think?

The background check is nothing to do with immigration, it is a check that most of the volunteer organizations (that I know about) insist upon.
IMO it is a good idea, when volunteers work with kids, seniors and others who may be at risk.

It is a background check that RCMP perform, if they get a match on your name, they will then ask for fingerprints to perform a more thorough search.

Background check changes add delays for volunteers

EDIT: Oops I think I thought you meant that no I couldn't get a background check if I don't have PR. Haha omg if this isn't what you meant then I am so sorry. I have had a rough couple of days.

Err, Ok maybe I didn't explain it properly.

Volunteer background checks (police checks) can be done on PR's and non PR's.

On a separate note, the Ottawa volunteer site there are some volunteer jobs where they do not want "new canadians", no idea why.

I hope your rough days get better :)

Very sorry Baloo. Don't apologize, that was me not reading things properly the first time.
I live in Newfoundland and am having a hard time finding any sites about volunteering. I am not sure if you could assist me with that but that would be wonderful.

Thank you so much. Well as long as I have a clearer head than before then my days are already getting better. ;)
