Visitors Visa

I have to apply for a visitors visa to come to Canada as I am on a South Africa passport. Planning on a 6 week visit and getting married in those 6 weeks and hopefully getting visa extended to apply inland.

Has anyone else applied for a visitors visa, as they ask you how long you plan to visit. Secondly, when you arrive did they only grant you the 6 weeks or did they give you a 6 month visitors visa?

Prior to my PR visa I landed in Canada 3 times on visit visa. For the Ist visit the IO gave me 6 months. 2nd and third visit I was allowed for three months. However I had to return after 45 days and it was OK for me.

The period of days permitted can be 6 months or less depending on the Immigration officer.

If you are issued a visa, it will have an expiration date already on it - so it will tell you in advance how long you'll be allowed to stay. You'll need to get married and get your inland PR application (include an extension application WITH the inland PR application) to the Case Processing Centre in Vegreville, AB so that it's received by them BEFORE your visitor visa expires. As a spousal inland PR applicant with valid temporary status, you'll be eligible to apply for extension AND to change your conditions to a work permit at the same time. They will issue your new status as soon as they have finished assessing your application for the first stage - usually about 6-7 months after they receive it. In the meantime, as long as your PR application and the extension ap are received (together) before your status expires, you'll have "implied status" to remain in Canada legally until you get word on the first stage approval. So be sure to track the mailing of the applications and get delivery confirmation. And don't leave Canada during processing - not only will you lose your "implied status", but you will lose the inland PR application if you are unable to get another visit visa. Also, normally they do not issue visitor visas to non-visa-exempt partners/spouses of Canadians, so not a good idea to mention in your application for the original visitor visa that you intend to come to Canada to get married.

Your initial TRV that you applied for, how long did you apply for when they issued you with a 6 month visa? What was your reason for your visit and did your partner issue you with a letter of invitation? Sorry about all the questions?

Should I say that I am coming in to visit a friend or my boyfriend ? Also, do you think I should include a letter of invitation from my fiance' when applying for TRV?
