My friend from Uganda had his visitors visa application rejected because they are not satisfied he will leave due to:
- travel history (which he’s never left Uganda)
- purpose of his visit
- personal assets.

What can I do here?? He has a flight leaving aug 14, is it possible to do anything before then?

Only thing he can do is reapply and address the issues the VO denied his visa on. Plus, he should never buy a airplane ticket before getting approval.

How do I even address those reasons? He can’t change his travel history or finances.

Not much can be done, the visa officers basically guess how likely someone is to become an illegal immigrant based on their economic situation & social ties in their country.
Aug 14th is definitely not a realistic deadline at this point.

You were warned in June not to buy a ticket without getting a visa. Would add that the majority of internationally trained doctors never get licensed in Canada.

would calling them help anything? he provided references from government hospitals saying who he was and that he would return. maybe a letter from the ministry of health stating he starts work in october would help? as for finances, does it help to show multiple bank statements rather than just one month? it's tricky because he can't afford to be here on his own, but we are going to pay for all his expenses.

He has to be able to pay for his own expenses to get the visa.

to be honest, i'm not even upset about the flight. i'm really just wanting him to come visit and searching for answers on how to ensure a better outcome. thanks for all the replies though.

ugh. gutshot. so best guess - what would you think a proper amount for a 10day visit be? i\'m assuming i can send him funds for him to put in his bank to then use for the appeal.

It is unfortunate but you can’t be surprised that he didn’t get the visa.

sorry, 10,000 CAD? That seems really high. And can you explain the property piece you mentioned. I don't understand that.

10k isn’t that high. A visit to Canada including airfare could easily be 3-4K if you had to pay for your own airfare, hotel and food. Nobody should use all their savings to travel so it should only be a portion of your savings. 10k is on the low end. Owning property like a home is another way to show that you have strong ties to your home country and will return.

well 10k would be more than I have, let alone him. maybe 2k sent to him would be manageable, but he doesn't own any property. frustrating that the government can't just know him - so much easier! heh

Canada is expensive. If you and your friend have an argument how would he pay for his hotel and food? Canada doesn’t want to have visitors not being able to support themselves or who don’t want to return home. It’s unfortunate that you didn’t listen and paid for the ticket before hearing about the visa.
