Hello Friends,

I just got married in my home country and I am a Canada permanent resident, I just want to know if I can bring my wife to Canada on a visitor's visa because it is faster than applying for a PR for her from outside canada. I want her to come on a visitors visa and then apply for PR for her while she's here in canada but a colleague said it is impossible since am a PR. Please help me if you have any idea about this... Thanks!

Why do you post this 5 times?

I believe that you have to be a Canadian Permanent Resident for 2 years (730 days) before you can sponsor a spouse or partner.

I know you already have an answer to this same question in another forum, but i wanted to clarify my previous reply.

I believe that you can help her with the visitor visa, but you will not be able to sponsor her for her PR until you fulfill your PR obligation (by living in Canada for 730 days). If you already have meet that criteria, you might be able to sponsor her.

Good luck!

No, that only applies for a person who has gained entry to Canada but doesn't meet the residency requirements (has been outside Canada for 1095 days or more in the past 5 years after gaining PR). A new PR or a PR who meets the requirements can sponsor any time but they must be residing in Canada in order to do so.

A PR who doesn't meet the requirements but gains entry to Canada without attracting the attention of immigration has the option of staying until they meet the requirements again and thereby bringing their PR status back in good standing but they can not sponsor during that period because if they do, immigration will become aware of their situation and could revoke their PR status.
