Visitor worries ??????

So just recently, in beginning of June, I did the mistake of thinking I would be allowed to stay in British Columbia with my girlfriend for six months, without showing any proof that I would be coming back to the US. I live in Minnesota, so it was a long travel for nothing since I was prevented from entering Canada. It was pretty devastating but it was my fault. Thankfully I got my job back with no questions asked (my workplace is amazing) and I decided to start over saving up to try again but do it right this time. I am planning for the beginning week of September because I promised my girlfriends kids I will be there for their first day of school. Obviously I am not staying for six months, just around three weeks. This way I will still have a job when I get back. But I know when I attempt to cross that border again, my entry will be under a microscope, I basically signed a waiver that stated I was voluntarily heading back to US customs with the escort of Canadian customs. That means I can reattempt whenever I want which I lucked out. Apparently if they wrote a report I couldn't try for reentry for a whole year! So I want to do everything right this time. Buy a round trip ticket for example. It is hard not to be worried though. I don't want to travel so far and be told I have to come back.

As for proving I have ties back home, the options are limited. I pay rent to my mother, so I don't know if I can use that though since she is my mom. I have a job, but do they need to write a letter admitting I work there for me to show I am definitely coming back or what? Again I am just staying for three weeks this time. My girlfriend's family said they will write a letter of invite or something for me, but that doesn't guarantee entry. So any insight from anyone on the matters of how do I show proof that I am definitely coming back home would be helpful.

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
You live in Minnesota, but you said you had a long travel and was prevented from entering Canada? Isn't it's a short drive between MN and ON? From ON, couldn't you take some domestic flights to BC instead?

Are you able to prove that you won't be a financial burden on the country? My boyfriend has been in BC with me a full year on a visitor VISA (he is from Central USA) and it hasn't been an issue because I can support him financially.
Maybe that is a contributing factor?
