Your application will be rejected straight if you put 2-3 months. Unless it's for a (legitimate) short term studies and you can get the acceptance letter from a Designated Learning Institute.

i just wanna be with my family longer :( what do you mean on the legitimate short term studies? im planning on visiting canada after the semester ends and study again the next school year. can i not stay longer?

Oh you're a student? If that's the case I'm not sure. But from what I read in this forum, many people who are not students (working adults or self-employed) applied for more than one month tourist visa and in the end they were all rejected. The reason being that staying too long in Canada and leaving job/business for too long demonstrate weak ties to home country.

No it's not minimum it's maximum 6 months. But in reality, except for short-term studies, if you state in your application that you would like to stay for 6 months, your application will be rejected. And extension isn't that simple/easy to get.
