Hi all,
I'm an American currently in Canada under a one year IEC working holiday. I got a job that is LMIA-exempt and I submitted an application for a LMIA-exempt work permit under NAFTA in mid-March. I'm expecting a decision in the next few weeks but I'm cutting it really close to my original work permit end date which is June 24th, 2015.
I want to stay in Canada as a visitor past then. What are my requirements for getting a visitor visa? I know IEC doesn't get implied status, as in I can't keep working past my expiry even though I have a work permit in process. Should I apply for a visitor visa a month or so before my original work permit expires? Or can I apply for a visitor visa right before it expires? Will applying for a visitor visa screw up my pending work permit in any way?
Thanks!
