Visitor Visa was refused "Travel Document claimed to be invalid"

Hello,

I'm an international student currently studying in Canada. I applied for a visitor Visa on the 11th of March 2019 and got a response yesterday(April 27, 2019). The message stated that my Visa was denied and I should see letter for explanation. When I opened the letter attached in my account it stated that my visitor Visa was denied because I did not produce evidence of a valid travel document and as such I'm in this country illegally and should leave immediately willingly or I'll be forced out. During my application process for mt visitor Visa I uploaded all the documents I previously uploaded for my study permit, so all this(travel document isnt valid) is a complete shock to me. My passport hasn't expired and will not expire for the next 4 years. My study permit is still very much valid and I uploaded all these documents as mentioned above(along with more supporting documents). I'm completely lost, nervous and confused as to what I should do. I don't know who to contact about any of this or what direction to take, I still have exams for crying our loud(lol). I would really like some guidance as to how to approach this, please. I would really appreciate it.

I did attach a scanned copy of my passport which is valid and a scanned copy of my study permit(which is also valid) along with other supporting document.

Why I applied for TRV?
I looked it up online regarding traveling outside the country during the summer holidays and returning to resume school and I've come across quite a few sites that says I need a Visa to travel in and out the country. On my study permit it says "it doesn't guarantee re-entry" neither does a visitor Visa but, I've read that needed one if I intend on leaving the country and wanting to re-enter and that is why I applied. I didn't know I was possibly doing something wrong. Do you have any suggestions for me?

If you don’t breach the conditions of your study permit, meaning you’re genuinely pursuing the stipulated course, attending classes, passing exams and completing by the end of the stipulated date, there’s no reason why you can’t leave and enter the country freely.

Therefore there’s no need to apply for a TRV, which seems to have aroused the suspicion of immigration. But don’t panic. You need to clear the matter with them soonest possible in writing first followed by a meeting, failing which you may be deported. Seek help from the student counsellor at your learning institution.

Do not be guided or be influenced by what you read online, which is full of rubbish. Visit and be guided by the official sites. Lastly, what may work for Person A may not work for Person B or Person C.

You mentioned that I should clear the matter with them in writing, followed by a meeting. I'm not sure who to write to(but I guess I can browse around for an email address) but in regards to a meeting, if they have offices located in my area (Edmonton) can I just walk in?

Completely wrong. A study permit has nothing to do with being able to return to Canada. Depending on which passport they hold, an international student must have either an eTA or TRV to fly to Canada.

Exactly, and that's why I was seeking to obtain a visitor Visa to be able to travel home and return to resume school. I do know that even if I'm in possession of a visitor Visa, it's not a guarantee for re-entry but I knew I needed one based on my research and based on the fact that Jamaicans (which I am) need a Visa to enter/re-enter this country.

I don't know what transpired while they were reviewing my application and I definitely didn't breach my permit. I attend classes every day, my GPA is very good and my permit says I can work on or off campus for not more than 20 hrs, which I definitely didnt breach either(I've been very very very careful). So I honestly don't know what happened, or what to do now.

If your previous TRV is expired or was single-entry, yes, you need a new one. Send an urgent Webform about the app with copies of your passport and study permit.

I think I know what I did wrong. I didn't upload the TRV in my book. The immigration officer at the airport stapled my study permit onto of the Visa which says (multiple) I didn't even remember or even realized that it was there until literally a few minutes ago. With that being said, I didn't submit it during my application process and think that was why the immigration officer refused me and said I'm here illegally and should leave immediately. Regardless of the fact, I think they should have asked for a scanned copy of the visa to prove I'm indeed in possession of it(but I'll do that now), the letter said I didn't produce a valid passport which I did. I really hope I can resolve this.

The TRV in your passport has nothing to do with your status in Canada, so that was not what happened. It sounds like it was just a mistake by the person reviewing your app.

TRV = visitor visa. Same thing.

Happy to be completely wrong. I assumed the OP was from a visa exempt country.

My apologies to the OP for the erroneous assumption and the flawed advice.
