visitor visa--tourism or visit family? I don't know how to choose

I stay in Canada for my work permit. My boy friend want to come to Canada. since I don't work now (waiting for my work permit), I can't provide a financial support proof. In this case, could my boyfriend apply a vistor (visit family) visa? If not, he has to apply a visitor visa for tourism.
I still have a question "are you accomponying a family member that has status in Canada or has recently been approved to come to Canada?". I am in Canada now. Will my boyfriend be accomponying me? I am confused of it.

Ok yes you can apply for TRV. To have a good chance of approval you should have proof of savings, be employed in your home country, etc. Since you are listed as the common law of someone applying for a WP it will be more difficult to get a TRV. If your spouse is working in NOC 0, A or B or on PGWP you should be applying for an SOWP.
