I have my aunt visiting on a visitor visa and am wondering if while she is here I can apply for her to be a live-in caregiver? I would like her to care for my son when I go back to work in 5 mths....???? Has anyone done something like this before.....I know I can extend her visa but I would like a more permanent solution since I would like her to take care of my son until he is of school age.

So you need a PR (or a work permit)....

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/caregiver/

After you decide, then post this either in the PR or Work subforums.

Good luck!

It's not that simple. Have a look here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/caregiver/apply-who.asp.

She must have the required experience or education and you would need to obtain an LMIA, Labour Market Impact Assessment, in order to hire her.

Yes I have reviewed the eligibility criteria and I think we would be eligible with the exception of the required experience. She has never worked as a live-in caregiver in the past 3 years however she has worked as a principal of a school for small children back home for many many years and I'm not sure if that would qualify.

Then she is not eligible.

Are there any restrictions for hiring a relative to be a live in caregiver?

Not yet, Kenney was discussing that this is an area that will be part of the on-going review of the LCP. He was quoted that 70% of the LCPs from the Philippines had LMOs for relatives, which he said didn't seem to meet the objectives for the program.
