Visitor Visa pending Spousal Application

Hi everyone.

We submitted my wifes outland spousal sponsorship PR application on September 23rd, 2024. To date, we have received the AOR, Biometrics, Sponsor eligibility, and Medical. The medical was passed on November 16, 2024. Background check is in progress, and principal applicant eligibility has not yet started.

We heard that once you get the medical, its likely your PPR is within a month or two minus rare cases. At that time, we planned to visit the country and come back with my wife. We bought plane tickets for February.

Now that it has been over a month since she passed her medical and there is still no PPR, we are thinking about applying for a visitor visa. My question is how long does it typically take? Also after the visitor visa ends and if she still does not have her PR, is there something else you can apply for so that she does not have to go back? IF her PR does come while she is on a visitor visa, then does she need to re enter Canada? And finally, is it worth applying for the visitor visa or should we anticipate her PPR coming before February given it will be 3 months since her medical exam?

Thank you!

Medical is early in the process. I don't think it's at all accurate to say that PPR is 1-2 months after medical, except for rare cases.

I would go ahead and apply for the TRV. No harm in doing that. Shame you didn't apply right after AOR. How long that takes can be influenced by where the applicant is applying from.

If she comes on a TRV, she can apply for an OWP to remain longer or simply apply to extend her stay.

Never by a plane ticket until you have a stamped passport. Depending on her home country processing can be over 1 year. There is significant differences in processing time depending on the application and location.
