Visitor Visa is expiring while Common Law PR Application is in the mail

I mailed the common law application but my visitor VISA will most likely expire before they receive the package and definitely before I get AOR. Should I then apply for a visitor extension in the meantime saying that my application has been sent and waiting to hear back.

Assuming you applied inland with an OWP?

6 months is the standard.

You can try asking for a year extension thats what I did explaining that I'm being sponsored
