My sister and I are international students in Germany and are originally from Iran.

Most of our family members live in Canada and we would like to see them again after almost 6 years, but the most important reason is to attend our cousin's wedding on September 23, 2022.

We have an invitation letter from our aunt and we can already start the process, but the problem is that our residence permit in Germany expires on September 10. 2022. We already have an appointment at the immigration office to renew our visa on September 6 (which was the earliest date they could offer us).

The question is: Since the visa process takes some time and we also have a wedding that we really want to attend, would it be possible for us to fill out the application form now with our current documents and submit our extended residence permit on September 6 to complete our file?

You can certainly do that. If possible, I would include evidence that you have already submitted the paperwork to extend your residency permit and that you have an appointment booked to renew your visas.

Note that processing times are very long right now and there's definitely a possibility your application will not be processed in time for the trip. IRCC is currently prioritizing applications for Ukrainians who are fleeing the war. Submit your application as soon as possible.

I would appreciate it if you could also tell me which documents exactly I need to upload and which additional documents can be helpful for the application process?
Is there any possibility that I could briefly explain something about my residence visa in Germany during the procedure to avoid all possible misunderstandings or rejection?
On the financial part, a statement of my savings account is also sufficient ?!
Is there any minimum amount I should have in my account to apply for a 1 month stay in Canada?

The forms you need to complete are outlined on the IRCC website. Follow these instructions exactly and read through the guide. You can find this information here: https://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/visa.asp

You will want to upload evidence that shows your ties to Germany. I would include things like: property lease / rental agreement, letter from your school stating you are enrolled, proof you have pain your tuition fees for the current and/or next semester, proof of your application to extend your status in Germany, evidence you are working in Germany part time (if applicable), etc.

There is no way to avoid all possible chances of rejection. There is always going to be a chance of rejection.

You can include a letter of explanation to explain the status of your residency visa in Germany.

Yes, a statement of savings is sufficient. You and your sister will each want to show that you have enough money to cover the costs of the flight and your stay in Canada. Technically there is no minimum and it's up to the IRCC officer to assess if your funds are sufficient. If you plan to stay for a month, I think it would be ideally to show $10K but more is always better of course.

Is your school on a break in September? One month seems like a long time to be coming to Canada if you are in the middle of a school term.

I appreciate it, your reply was complete and really helpful. Well our exams won't be finished until the end of August and then we have vacations until mid October.

Anything that is not in English or French needs to be translated.

thank you for the reply. Do you think my documents are strong enough as i know the ties for home country or country of residence for international students appears to have less convincing for the immigration. So I'm planning for 10 days only to watch my friend play in orchestra as he invited me.

These are the documents:
  • Student ID
  • School Enrollment Certificate (current and next semester)
  • Health Insurance in Germany
  • Confirmation of Registration from the Residents Registration Office (Anmeldung)
  • Tenancy Agreement (with 2-3 months latest payment) - i dont know if i can attach this with english translation its alot of pages
  • Blocked Account (for living expenses in Germany only, Germany blocked my money for my one year living expense - seperate from my saving account)
  • Saving Account (2500 euro or 3597 cad)
  • Residence Permit in Germany (i have it until 2025)
  • Invitation Letter (from my friend)
  • My friend’s school enrollment certificate
  • My friend’s study permit
  • My friend's lease contract (and 2 months latest payment)
  • My friend’s passport
  • Vaccine Certificate
  • Day-to-day itinerary and planned flight ticket (just a screenshot from expedia)

Your help means a lot to me, thank you :)

You don’t have a lot of money for a visit. Once you pay airfare/insurance, it will show you are using all your savings.

Hi, thank you again for the reply. If that so, how much is "save" for my saving account?

For this travel, i will stay with my friend (with invitation letter) so i only spend for airfare, food and visa application. If i calculate it (i made the itinerary with amount of money i'll be spending each day - food, entrance fee of attraction and public transportation, which i will attach in the application too), i wont even spend half of my saving account, or the max is half of the amount. I also have blocked account in germany with total EUR 11200 for living here and start from this month i will be receiving salary from my working student job.

Thank you again :)
