Wow, this is all news to me. My parents just applied for visitor visas, and in my invitation letter I put in 3 months. Now it sounds like that was a bad idea.

My parents are in their 80s. We are having to plead with them to make the trek over to Canada since we just bought a home and are eager to have them visit. They have zero desire to stay back in Canada, but the irony is their visitor visa may be rejected on that assumption, lol. They can comfortably show 100k+ each in funds.

Should we withdraw the applications, and re-apply for a 1 month visit?

If you are retired a longer visit is more easily justifiable. There is also more allowance for shared funding by children of elderly parents. The bigger issue will be concern they will not return home or health issues given their age.

Thanks for the reply. I was considering withdrawing and re-applying for a 30 or 45-day visit, but that might well prompt more questions and doubts on intent. I'm wondering if buying gold-plated private health insurance to cover their planned dates of travel to Canada will help. Is there a way to send additional documents to IRCC?

Separately, can anybody share how long it's taking these days to receive the biometrics request? My mom got her request on day 2, but it's radio silence on my dad's application even after a week.

doubt that showing proof of health insurance now would make a difference. In terms of processing it has not been long at all. Was your mother the primary applicant?

Actually my dad is the primary applicant. Zero chance my mom will come by herself, if my dad's visa application is rejected or delayed. Since we got our Canadian passports a few years back, I had forgotten all about the uncertainty that comes with IRCC interactions :)

Assume there may be some background or medical check needed that your mom did not require.

Oh interesting, thanks for responding. I was under the impression they run the background checks after biometrics are done, so the fingerprints can be used for security checks. Hopefully it comes soon, my mom's biometrics request came instantly, and for my dad it is close to 10 days with radio silence.

Unclear what you mean by medical check? How would they know anything about my dad's health (actually better than my mom's) or be able to check on it?

Sorry thought they did medicals. Oh he hasn’t received biometrics… that is a bit strange. Has he done some in the past 10 years?

Nope, first visit to Canada, so no existing biometrics.
Your mother appears to have been processed via AI but your father’s application appears to have been not for some reason. Would wait another week or so and then try to follow-up but you will likely not receive a response for quite a while. Hopefully he’ll get the request soon.

Both my parents just received their passport request. Strangely, my dad still did not get a biometrics request. My mom's biometrics request was received and submitted. Not sure what to make of it. Is it possible my dad might get a visitor visa approval without submitting biometrics?

Congratulations. What's your father's age? Age over 79 years are exempted from biometric.
