I'm a US citizen. My mom will be visiting me from India in June 2nd week (3 weeks from now)
We plan to go on Alaska cruise. So, she would need visitor visa for Canada (TRV). We have only 5 weeks left before cruise.

So, question:
1. Is it recommended to apply online to get things rolling? What are the processing times? Is it even OK to apply online while she is not even in US yet?

2. Is it better to go to Seattle in person to obtain visitor visa, once she's here? Anybody done this lately? What's the process there? I heard it's a 2-day process now.

Please advise. Appreciate any feedback regarding Seattle appearance.

Thanks

She is in a remote place in Southern India. Can not travel alone. So, I prefer taking care of whole process here in USA.

1. She doesn't qualify to apply through a US office if she isn't in the US. She needs to apply online ASAP from India; New Delhi processing time is 9 days, plus passport mailing time. She may just get the visa in time.

2. Visa and Immigration Section of the Seattle CIC office closed last year. TRVs are processed in LA or NY, where the processing times are over a month.

You've really left it to the last minute. She will be required to send her passport to the New Delhi office; if there are any delays in issuing her TRV, she may not even have her passport back in time to fly on June 2nd.

You need to apply from India now and not wait at all and hope she gets it before she leaves. Also note Canada have a transit visa which is free

A transit visa is not valid for a cruise stop. She will require a TRV.

Thanks for your replies!

I did not know that Seattle consulate is closed now!

Another question: If she stops over in Abu Dhabi for 2 weeks on her way to US; would it be any easier to appear there in person?
Does anybody know the process in Abu Dhabi. Same day issuance? how complicated or easy it is.., etc. ??

Ha... she can travel alone to Abu Dhabi but not New Delhi in her country!

My first TRV denied ten years ago by Dhaka consulate but immediately after that denial I visited USA on business and applied for TRV in Detroit to visit my sister showing a proper invitation. It was approved on the same day. But I heard that now a days CIC prefers TRV application in country of residence. Good Luck!

1. As she would have no ties to Abu Dhabi, it is unlikely that they would issue a TRV.

if it helps, my mom is applying thru Abu Dhabi consulate and it took two weeks just to get the email asking for her passport to be sent it for the visa stamp.
So probably she wont have enough time

And also, I think she will have to show supporting documents showing her residency is valid in Abu Dhabi.
Usually visa needs to be applied in country of residence which in this case is India.

just my $0.02 cents
