Hello,

I'm a Canadian citizen currently studying in Indonesia and living with my girlfriend (Indonesian citizen) and we're considering applying for a visitor visa for her at the end of the summer when I will go back to live in Canada.

I'd like some opinions on her chance of getting a visitor visa as objectively I don't think she has very strong ties to her home country.

She:
-21 years old
-Vocational high school graduate
-Has been working in the same company 1+ year
-Makes ~$200 per month (average for her experience)
-Currently living with me but usually lives with her parents
-Whole family lives in Indonesia
-No kids

The point of this trip to Canada would be for her to visit Canada and also to meet my parents as we're planning to marry in the future. The whole trip would last 2-4 weeks. Since she cannot cover all the expenses of the trip by herself, I was planning on putting $3000 in her account and I would have about the same in my account.

She made her passport a few months ago and we've traveled to Malaysia and Thailand (single trip) during Christmas. We might go to another ASEAN country by the time she applies for a visa.

From what I've read on this forum, there's a few things that could help her case, could anyone weigh in on that:

- I should write an invitation letter
- My parents should write a letter saying she can stay in our house during her visit
- Letter of employment from her company confirming she'll still have a job when she returns to Indonesia
- Proof of our relationship

Also, I'm wondering if this visa application gets rejected, would it negatively impact a future spousal sponsorship case (common-law) or will the sponsorship be independent from a visa rejection?

Thanks a bunch!

Have you lived together for 12 months?
Not quite. I'm currently on a 1 year visa in Indonesia and I'd like to come back to Canada with my girlfriend. I might stay an extra month in Indonesia after my visa (exit/reenter country) just to make sure we get the full 12 months for a future common-law case. Since we'd have to apply for visitor visa 1-2 months before the flight, we'll have been living together for ~10 months when she applies.

Most likely be rejected for a visitor. Stay together 12 months towards common-law (you will need proof) and apply for spousal sponsorship instead of trying temporary residence.
That would be our next step but we wanted to try applying for a visitor visa first.

Other than going to another visa requiring country, is there anything we could do to increase her chances of getting the visa?

Having brought my wife from Indonesia, I’ll be honest and let you know it’s going to be difficult based on her current financial and travel history. The only way we managed to get my wife a TRV prior to sponsorship was due to her having sufficient funds to cover the trip duration and airfare (1 week and airfare-$7K) and the fact I included my KITAS and continuing work contract. My returning to Indonesia to work pretty much guaranteed she would be returning as well. Your intention to marry is something IRCC will assume and then determine the risk is high she will remain in Canada for sponsorship. Her bank balance won’t correspond with her earning and it will be assumed you supplemented her savings. Its going to be a tough sell.

Buletruck,
I hope you don't mind but I'm trying to send you a PM and the system won't allow me. Is there a way to contact you?
Thanks
