Hi. I applied for my study permit last month. I hail from a class of family where it is pretty common for their parents to accompany them to their place of study to get them settled and to have an emergency contingency in place. I am under 22 therefore not having any spouse/children as is common in Canada, think? but not in India. My parents visa was rejected and they applied later than me. They gave their biometrics last week and only in 7 days they received a refusal. what does this mean for me? my medicals have been updated so is biometrics. am I going to face a refusal too?

would appreciate your reply @Canuck11 @Naturgrl

How old are you? Planning to attend post-secondary? What were the reasons for refusal?

If not a minor (under 18), your parents' TRV is not tied to your study permit. Their refusal has no bearing on your study permit. Their application is based on their ties to home country, funds, travel history and reasons to travel. If over 18, accompanying you when you are not even in the country yet, is not a strong reason.

If you are approved, they may consider applying once you are in Canada and you can write a letter of invitation.

I am 20. Graduated this year with a bachelors. Applied for a dual post degree program in a public DLI in Vancouver.

Their reasons for refusal were:
• Inconsistent reason
• Assets when we showed CAD 3,08,633 of liquid fund.

Their travel history is very good. 10 times better than average people.

you applied visa for your whole family, which makes it suspicious as if you wont return back, as it signifies no family ties in host country.

So their TRV application has nothing to do with your study permit. You are not a minor so the two applications are not tied together.

- Inconsistent reason: If you aren’t going to Canada, then they have no reason to apply for a visitor visa. If approved and once you are in Canada, then invite them to come.
- So they showed $300k CDN in liquid funds? Are these same funds also being used for your education too? That is an issue because they are funding your education and their trip.

You will have to wait for your approval. If you just graduated then you have no work experience to show that the program will advance your career to justify costs. If refused that may be a reason for refusal. Why not work a few years and get some work experience.

If you want to study internationally as a post grad you are expected to be able to travel on your own. For the best chance of approval only one parent should apply to travel. The other parent staying in India serves as a tie. There are parents, especially mothers, who do try to remain in Canada with their child while they study which is why there is likely some concern.
