Hi All,

I have a list of questions for applying for a visitor visa for my Argentine wife (I'm Canadian) and if you could help me out, I'd appreciate it. We plan for a 5 week visit. For your information, I have Argentine residence. I may not be travelling with my wife, but we will meet in Canada.

Are there any advantages disadvantages to online / mail applications?

I noticed that the mail in visa application wants a copy of her return flight. Does she have to book a flight before she has applied for the visa?

Is it better to say she's visiting family or for vacation?

If she does the online application what does she have to do with her passport? Mail it in?

Is proof of "financial support" her bank balance? Her monthly salary?

What amount of money should she have in her bank?

Does she need a medical exam?

Does she have to pay the Visa fee with her own credit card or can I do that with my Canadian card?

Thank you for your help!

Not really.

It is better to be honest about her purpose of visit.

Yes

Anything that proves she has the means to take the trip without monetary concerns.

Usually it is 1000CAN per week of stay after accommodations. Of course it depends on the purpose of visit.

You should know this if you said you saw the checklist that included "copy of her return flight"....

As you/she sees fit.

Do not lie or omit facts in the visa application. If she is coming to visit you then just say it. Even write in detail the purpose and duration of her trip and also your long term marriage plans.

Thank you for all the information and advice. Much appreciated. My only outstanding question is about the return flight. On the checklist it asks for a return flight or itinerary but wouldn't she get a ticket only once she has a visa?

Where did you get that list? Please share the link.

I notice that she has to submit proof that she's returning to Argentina. She'll have a return ticket once she has the visa but not before. Other proof for returning to Argentina include a doctor's appointment. What details does this doctor's appoint need to have?

Also. I live with my wife in Argentina so I imagine the letter of invitation needs to come from my mother where we'll be staying. Is that right?

They ask for a proof of relationship to the person inviting (my mother). Is a marriage certificate to me enough?

Thank you

Here's the link... i took out the www because it says you can't post links cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5484E.pdf

There is no "Proof of coming back" checkbox in any place on the form you pasted. Where did you get this idea from?

Also if it says "if applicable" that means it is optional. For example if you are attending a 5 days conference it would be expected to see air tickets. In your case it "does not apply" as the dates are quite flexible.

Is your mother inviting her? If she is accompanying you then she doesn't need a letter of invitation, because that is not real. She can include a letter of explanation where she says that she is travelling with her husband on a trip (you also mention that she might be travelling before/after you and submit evidence to back this up).

It might, but a third person is usually not advisable as it is tougher to prove a relationship. Again, is your mother really inviting you? There is a difference between going on holidays to meet your parents and spend some vacations and "being invited by mother in law".
