Dear All

I am currently on my Work Permit(until 2016) and today my wife and my kid came to Toronto(they too have a valid visa until 2016) on visitor visa. However at the immigration check, the Visa Officer had stamped the passport saying that valid until Nov-2013, which means she will have to return back and then enter again.

The confusing part is Immigration Officer had asked her to write some exam(she is not so sure about this), and if she writes she can continue her stay, but no official document was given.

An body with similar situation, or can provide details on this so as for us to not to violate any rules

Regards
Praveen

A visitor visa only allows you to stay for six months. This is normal. The fact that your wife's visa is valid for three years does not allow your wife for stay for three straight years in Canada. It just means that the visa can be used any time over those three years. If she wants to stay longer than six months, she will have to apply for an extension:

Officer might thought they are here for visit and not as dependant, Officer stamped the date that means she has to leave after that date.

You can extend or change the conditions of the stay, Or you can go to pearsons airport and seek clarification from canada customs officers.
