Even then, it's not a 24 hour requirement. You can drive to the US border and literally turn right back around to the Canadian side, staying all of 1 second in the USA.

Or some people if they aren't in a super rush to land when their app is approved, can book a landing appointment at a local CIC office and not even leave the country at all. Most people don't do this though since it can take weeks or months to get an appointment, while driving to the border is instant.

As an update to this thread, I have a question regarding what is required to send in the initial PR paperwork for an Outbound application (USA).

I'm currently in BC with my wife, and hope to stay here during the PR process.

- Do I need to order the police certificate and have that in my initial application packet? The current wait time for that is 13-15 weeks! I was hoping to be able to send in my original documents, marriage license, and other things directly on hand, and then update my file with the police certificate later on.

Technically, everything is required. However, CIC is lenient when it come to PCCs. Include proof of payment for the FBI certificate and a little letter of explanation stating you will forward it on when it arrives.

Thank you, that's brilliant! I appreciate the quick response.

I'm assuming I need to have my medical done before even submitting the paperwork? or is that something they request at a later date?

You should do the medical upfront to avoid any delays. The doctor will submit the medical for you electronically, and give you a form to include with your application.

Wonderful, thank you. I'll go ahead and get that all scheduled. Anyone know where to find a doctor who is able to preform the exam within BC? Van Island?

*EDIT* I found it. :) Now..... what to expect.....
