Visitor visa extension due to COVID19

My parents came to Canada on a visitor visa in Jan. 2020. Due to this COVID-19 upheaval, we more or less decided to wait the pandemic out as both my parents are in their late 50s with a few underlying conditions.

My parents applied for an extension in May 2020 (1 mo prior to status expiration, as recommended) and it is approved today. We are good until March 2021 for now.

Can anyone shed some light on what we shall do in March if my parents still want to stay? I assume we can do the 2nd extension but bit nervous about the likelihood of refusal... Maybe supervisa?

All thoughts are appreciated!!!

You would apply for another extension.

I don't believe you can apply for a super visa from within Canada.

Thanks for the inputs, Scylla. I understand the 1st extension is more or less a formality that is unlikely to be refused. But is it risky to try the 2nd time? I hope COVID is a strong argument... Much appreciated!!!

Covid is not going anywhere for a long time. Your parents are still relatively young. People won't be given extensions for years. Canada may be getting vaccines but not the majority of the world. There are also many people who will refuse the vaccine.

How long did it take to get the approval? Looks like it took you longer then 6 months, is it correct?
Did you ask for 1 year extension of only 6 months?

Just updating my parents visa extension details: Got visitor extension last week successfully:-

My parents had biometrics done in India January 2020 but were not told to get medicals done at that time
Came to Canada on Multiple visa in March first week 2020
Applied online for their extension in August first week

Put up a case enquiry in January asking for their extension results
Got reply by IRCC in February that processing time of applied application is in progress
Got biometrics correspondence letter in First week of March 2021
Next day got Medical request to be submitted in next 90 days
Next day got Visitor extension approval letter for next 6 months

They still must complete their medicals.
