Visitor Visa Concerns

Hi everyone, I am hoping that you all can help me with my visitor visa questions and concerns. I have few months ago submitted a Federal Skilled Worker application and plan to visit Canada in a few weeks. However, I am not sure if my applying for a visitor visa would be a problem since I clearly have the intention of immigrating to Canada in the future.

My questions are:
Will this be a cause of concern for the Canadian Immigration?
Will applying for visitor visa be difficult in light of my intention to immigrate?
Will applying for a visitor visa affects my Federal Skilled Worker application?
Or should I stay away from Canada for now??

Anyone could comment on these will be greatly appreciated.

Sharon

You have to mention in the Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) application whether you applied for any immigrant visas or not.

Since you have applied for the Federal Skilled Application, there are high chances that the Visa Officer might reject your TRV application since you intend to immigrate. There would be no problem with the processing of the Federal Skilled Application.

I visited Montreal in October 2008 and had started my application through Quebec in February 2008. When I applied for Tourist Visa in September, I mentioned my application and gave them my reference number. I got the tourist visa without any issue.

Canada allows "dual intent" (unlike some other countries such as the U.S.) and there should not be a problem applying to stay temporarily and permanently at the same time, as long as you can convince the immigration officer that you are able and willing to leave Canada at the end of your temporary stay:

More information here: http://www.canadavisa.com/immigration-canada-dual-intent.html

I applied for FSW in 2005, but was allowed to enter Canada with a TRV in 2009, right after the visa requirements changed for Mexicans.

Between 2005 and July 2009 I didn't need a visitors visa issued, and visited Canada 3 times. Then in 2009 I had to apply for a TRV. I was quite nervous because it was not a requirement before, but everything went fine. I guess they had records of me entering Canada without overstaying or working illegally, which helped process the application smoothly.

It's important that you show enough proof that you'll return to your country of residence, like an employment certificate, bank account balances, property, etc.

Good luck!

Thanks Shakira...kind of you to take time and reply...
I do have a letter from my employer and will also submit payslips, bank statements, council tax bills (to prove i reside here)

I had visited Canada in 2005 and hopefully should help to check that I did NOT overstay or indulge in anything illegal :)

Its sad how much i have to think this out even though i have NOOO evil intentions what so ever....just hope it pays off to be truthful and I get my visit visa.

Cheers,

yippieee got my visit visa granted this morning! Paid off to be truthful and put in the details of my pending PR application.

The visa officer had a chat in order to assess if i intended overstaying and made it clear that the visit visa DOES NOT entitle me to stay till the PR application is processed! I told him i am aware of this and he was kind enough to grant me a multiple entry visit visa!

Thank you all for your help/advise. Im glad I logged in here to clear my mind before applying!
