Hi All,

I am newbie to this forum. My friend got LMIA & submitted for work permit. Currently I heard the work permit processing from India is approximately 40 weeks wait time.
My questions is, can my friend apply for Visitor visa while waiting for work permit? I heard visitor visa is 50-50 chance. In case if the Visitor Visa is denied, will it effect the work permit application which is in progress?

Regarding visitor visa, my friend dont have any blood relations in canada. So another friend in Canada is planning to sponsor my friend in India. Will this works?

Please advise if anyone has insight about my friend situation. Appreciate any comments/experience in this area.

Thanks
Ashok

Your friend can apply if he has a strong profile - strong ties to home country (job, property, family), funds to come to Canada (bank accounts), travel history, reason to travel. There is no such thing as sponsorship for a visitor visa. The friend can write a letter of invitation. No effect on work permit application.

Ok cool. Thanks for reply.

Hi Guys,
I would appreciate If someone could suggest me as per my situation.
My LMIA is in process since Aug 2021 and still there is no ETA. And luckliy meanwhile my wife got her ICT and work permit for Canada this month. Would it be advisable to cancel my LMIA and apply for dependent Visa ? Or any way to travel along with her at earliest.

There is no such thing as a dependant visa. You apply for either a visitor visa (show funds, strong ties to country, travel history, reasons to travel) or an open work permit based on her ICT.

Thanks for the immediate response.
So should I ask my employer to cancel the LMIA or can I apply for Visitor/Open-Work visa in parallel ?
And what would be a wise step in my case considering various factors like, processing time, chances and work autherisation ?
a. Keep waiting for LMIA.
b. Apply for Visitor
c. Apply for Open Work Visa

You can keep waiting for a LMIA. OWP processing is really long. You can apply for a visitor visa but must prove that you are only coming to visit which is difficult since you have a work permit under process and wife going to Canada to work.
