Hello Forum Members,

I need your help with something:

I'm a Canadian citizen living abroad for seven years. I've been living with my partner since August 2022, which means we have a Common-law relationship. I'd like my partner to apply for a Canadian visitor visa, but I'm worried they might think he wants to stay in Canada permanently, which is not the case. I don't want to lie on the application.

We both have good jobs in our home country, and my partner has a valid US visitor visa. He's traveled to many countries and has enough money to show he's just visiting. But I'm concerned that being in a relationship with me might make things difficult.

I'd really appreciate any advice you can offer.

Thank you!

Your partner needs to be honest about being in a common law relationship with you. Since it sounds like they have a strong profile, they should have a high chance of being approved. Make sure you keep the requested trip at a reasonable length, and that your partner shows sufficient funds to pay for the trip, as well as ties to their home country.
