Hello:

I am flying out of Chicago on Dec 30th, with an Indian passport (valid US visa) and have a layover at Toronto International airport for 4 hours. I applied online for my transit visa on Nov 27th. I received the update from them next day which was the application confirmation. Am I too late to apply for the visa? What are the chances that I get my passport stamped before my travel? Anyone who applied online and received faster response?

Many thanks,
Lakshita Gulati

I saw people posting their approvals within 2 weeks too. The problem with the entire process is they don’t respond to emails and you can’t call them. It would be helpful to understand the actual processing time/trend if folks who have applied online from USA and got PPR recently post their timelines here.

So i called up the canadian embassy, waited for one and a half hour since that was my wait time and spoke to a specialist. He told me that processing time for US applications is 19 days and that we ahould hear something atleast from them. I told him i have gone through a lot of forums and people are stressed out about the whole application process and he told me that people who take to forums are the ones with bad experience but there should be a lot people who also hear back within the said processing times. He also mentioned to put a web form request on the ircc website and if it has been more than 19 day (for canada trasit visa for people in US) then they will get back to you; but if it is less than 19 days then dont expect a response.

If u are in the US, block your called ID and call 613-944-4000 and 1 will be your option throughout. The wait time is extremely crazy but you will talk to a specialist eventually.

@lakshitagulati - thanks for calling the IRCC, I'll also try to reach them. I heard that they can only provide info about the cases filed within Canada.
Regarding the CSE and 19 days, mine is already more than 19 days, I have opened a CSE last week, sent 2 emails this week, but no response and no updates yet.

Of course, as I mentioned, there are applicants who got their applications processed within 2 weeks. I started worrying when I didn't see a response after 3 weeks. The biggest problem in the whole process is you can't get any updates (or customer service) on your application even if it's taking longer than posted processing timelines.

My application was approved today (Dec 4). I will send my passport today or tomorrow to New York.
@swj0605 - congrats! Mine is being processed in LA, still waiting.
Quick question, have you also included optional documents like I-797 in your online application?

Hello @swj0605 and @Nkj222

Have you both applied online for the transit visa? How and when did you know which VAC in US was working on your application? I called up the VAC in NY and they told me that since I applied online, the Canadian embassy will process mine and not any of the VAC centers. Is that information correct?

Many thanks,

@sw0605 thanks for your quick reply.

@lakshitagulati - I believe the online applications are processed in the country/region Visa embassy from where it is applied from. VAC just takes your application/passports and send them to the appropriate embassies. They are just the third/private party firms like VFS and don't make any decisions on the applications.
