" hello everyone atm i am on a mutiple entry visa to visit family and my daughter who is a citizen and studying. I would like to apply to become a pr because i am the main caregiver to my mom while i am here. I am also a voulanteer at the local schools teaching science because i was a science teacher back home. Am i able to just apply to become a pr and write a letter saying why i think i should be approved? Or how can i go about with this?

This is confusing. Is she trying to sponsor her parent who is retirement age or does she have a child in school and want to remain in Canada? After 40 it becomes very hard to immigrate through express entry.

No, you can't.

You have to apply for PR through an economic immigration stream (e.g Express Entry, PNP) just like anyone else. Having a daughter who is a Canadian citizen and studying gives you no advantages or special path towards becoming a PR.

PGP sponsorship is currently on hold. The daughter would have to see if she qualifies as a sponsor and see what the process will be when the next round is announced.

No - not at this time.

If her daughter is still in school, she will not qualify to sponsor her mother for PR.

Her daugher will need to wait until she finishes school, starts working full time and has worked full time for at least three years in Canada before she may qualify to sponsor her mother. She will need to make sure that the income she has earned in these three years also meets the minimum income level required to sponsor her mother. Once she meets the three year income requirement, she will enter a lottery and hope to be selected to sponsor her mother for PR (only a certain number of applications are accepted each year).

Best case scenario, it will be at least four years before her daugher will qualify to sponsor her for PR.

Would clarify what @scylla says and the daughter may qualify 4 years after she graduates if she meets a certain income level. Her mother is only in Canada as a visitor and should anticipate returning home at a certain point.

Okay soo if shes here as a visitor and has the visa and not the visitor record can she still apply to renew her visa to stay longer?

She requests an extension to stay. As mentioned sooner or later the Government will refuse any more extensions and say your mother has to leave
As mentioned above the time window before the possibility of sponsorship is four years. They won’t extend her stay any where near that time frame

Did I misread it but in the original post there was mention of being a caregiver to the mother on a visitor visa , is that not considered work ? That’s apart from the teaching on a voluntary basis. Maybe like everyone else I found the original post a bit confusing on who is who.

Would make sure you have a plan B. At a certain point your mother will need to return home. Hopefully she has emergency medical insurance but that doesn’t not cover routine healthcare or any longterm chronic care. If she does have a medical emergency she will be expected to return home once stabilized for further treatment.
