I found these forums very helpful and decided to post my rather complicated situation here:
I'm an Austrian citizen (visa-exempt) and I applied at UBC for the May 2018 intake. I feel confident that my application will be successful, but the final decision will be made in Feb 2018. My issue is that I've already been traveling Canada for the past 6 months (ending on Jan 7th) and my goal is to stay further in Canada, applying for the study permit from within. My initial plan was to take a short English course for a couple of months starting in Jan and use that as an additional reason to stay, but I found out that short-term studies are only allowed in the first 6 months upon arrival in Canada. I know that the visitor extension process will take around 2-3 months and that I can use the implied status to stay, but I also have to consider the negative effects of a rejection on the extension for a future study permt application. The decision I have before me is basically between taking the risk and staying in Canada (PREFERRED), and going back to Austria for a couple of months and applying for the study permit from there (A lot safer). What I am trying to find out is how successful visitor extension applications without special reason are (finances shouldn't be a problem).
I hope this long story is somewhat comprehensible and if not please don't hesitate to comment on that. Any information regarding my situation is highly appreciated.
