I currently have a Canada visitor visa which expires in 2027. I entered Canada on Sept.9, 2019, which means I have to leave Canada before Mar.9, 2020.
I applied for a work permit in September 2019, and a visitor record on Feb.8, 2020.
My work permit is approved on Feb.24, 2020. It expires in 2023. My visitor record application was cancelled on the same day.
The system says they will send me a message with details, but I just can' t find it anywhere.
Here are my questions:
1. Why was my visitor record been cancelled? Or What I can do to figure it out?
2. My work permit expires in 2023. Does this mean I can stay in Canada till 2023?
3. If the answer to Q2 is "no", Are there any ways I can extend my stay in Canada?

Thanks for reply.
Do you mean I can't have both? If so, can I keep staying in Canada till work permit expires in 2023 without a visitor record? If not, what can I do to extend my stay?

Yes you can’t have both. The work permit allows you to live and work in Canada until 2023. You would also have a TRV to enter Canada. You likely have already a TRV but may want to look at the TRV expiry date.

By saying TRV, do you mean the visitor visa pasted on passport? The expiry date on it says Feb 19, 2027.
Judging from what you've said, thanks to my work permit which expires in 2023, I can stay in Canada until 2023 without go back to my original nation, even though it's 3 years from now?

No, you can't have both. Either you are a worker or you are a visitor. A Visitor Record is for visitors. You have status as a worker.

Thank you for the reply!
Got it. Now that I have my approved open work permit, which expires in 2023, does it mean I can stay in Canada till 2023 and during these 3 years don't have to go back to my original nation? I'm asking because if I don't have that work permit, I have to go back in 6 months after arriving. Does work permit updates the leave date?

Does it make any difference in general if you didn't get stamp on arrival in Canada? Is there online record for arrival/departure we can get for Canada like i94 in US ?

I don't think stamp really matters, but the date of arrival should be recorded in system when I landed at the airport. Generally departure should be within 6 months after arriving, isn't it
