Visitor -- PR or Work permit

Hello everyone.
I am doing some preliminary research as I am not at all familiar with Canadian immigration laws, and I wanted to ask you all a couple of questions since I am reading some conflicting information online.
I am going to Canada in December under the visa waiver program with hopes to adjust my status once there.
On some websites, I read that I cannot apply for a work permit while on a visitor status and I would do better to apply for PR.
Somewhere else I read that I should apply for work permit instead because PR process takes too long and it's impossible to extend my legal visitor stay for that long or that many times. Could you please help me out? What do you think I should do?

Thanks!

Hello everyone.

Instead of asking people it is better to go to the source. There is little information we can give you that is not given in the CIC website. These type of forums are for specific questions. The more specific is your question the better results you will get from these forums.

On some websites, I read that I cannot apply for a work permit while on a visitor status and I would do better to apply for PR.
You can apply. Many people do it. One way is changing your status:

=> http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/extend-worker.asp

Somewhere else I read that I should apply for work permit instead because PR process takes too long and it's impossible to extend my legal visitor stay for that long or that many times.
It is not impossible as long as your case is solid. PR does take longer.

I would recommend first understanding what is a PR, and what is a worker, and which one fits your needs. After you are done, and have specific questions we can help you with them.

Best of lucks.
