It seems like they're more likely to give 1 year if the PR application is part-way through the process. It helps I think if you've at least filed it, and it's even better if the sponsorship is approved, and better yet if if applicant has some kind of first stage approval.

Congrats :D Did you ask for 6 months? Or is that all CPC-V gave you? Such a relief when the document comes through the mail and not a letter :D
Thank you :) I actually only asked for 6 more months. Luckily I have an immigration lawyer in my close family, and she recommended just asking for 6 months. Im not really sure why... and I doubt they would have denied me 1 year if I had asked for it, especially if you are in a good situation with your PR application. Mine was not even through the first stage though when I applied for my visitor extension. It is now, fingers crossed its finished within the next 6 months! Good luck DJ with your extension

Hey all,

I'd like to apply for an extension for my husband in September. His passport was stamped from June 20- October 30 (his plane ticket is for October 12) I'm 33 weeks pregnant, he'll be here for the birth. How long should I ask for an extension 6 months or a year? Is it worst to ask for a year??
Please help!!
Thanks in advance!

Hi lovebajan. I dont know if its best to apply for 6 months or a year. I was advised 6 months, as that is how long I am allowed to stay in Canada when I visit (from the UK). However, I am sure there are many people who ask for different lengths of time. I dont know if asking for a year would make much difference... if they dont want to give you the year they will just give you 6 months right
