Hi, I am in the process of helping my dad apply to extend his visitor status for another 6 months and just have a few questions

1) When starting the process for the application one of the questions is - How long are you planning to stay in Canada? With answers Temporarily less than 6 months or Temporarily more than 6 months. Which one do we choose? more than 6 months?

2) Also Schedule 1 - Application for a Temporary Resident Visa Made Outside Canada (IMM 5257) is an optional document. Does he have to fill this document out? He is not on a visa.

3) Also in the same section is a client information document that is optional. Does this need filling out? What type of information should he put?

4) In the actual application in the Background information, question #2C - Have you previously applied to enter or remain in Canada. He has come to Canada before, but has never applied for a visa or extend his stay before. Does he answer no?

Thanks!

1. How long is he planning to stay? Visitor records are generally issued for six months.
2. A TRV is a travel document, not a status document, so this is indeed optional if he is not planning to leave Canada and return/he is from a visa-exempt country.
3. You can upload a letter stating that you will be taking care of him while he is in Canada.
4. Any time you enter Canada you have applied to enter the country. Put yes and indicate when he first and last entered.
