Visitor Extension on Expired Passport

Hello all

Just seeing if there's anyone here that's been in a similar situation

My visitor status expired on July 14 as well as my passport, I applied for a renewal online and am still under implied status but I uploaded my expired passport as my travel document.

I am waiting on my country's consulate to issue my new passport, but my question is:

- What will CIC do in this case with an expired passport request for extension? Automatic denial?
Will the officer potentially issue a TRP instead?
Will they possibly ask me for the new passport and wait for me to upload it?

Anybody have experience applying for extension of visitor visa with an expired passport?

Seems obvious that you could not apply for anything new with an expired passport that you cannot travel with would make no sense to issue a new TRV with a date beyond the passport expiry date.

Do you really mean a TRP as that is generally for people deemed inadmissable at some point ?

Yes I only applied because it would provide implied status and show me as keeping true to maintiaining temp residency status while I await my new passport. CIC said yes i am on implied status right now until a decision is made.

My question is:

- anybody have this experience of applying for temp residence extension with expired passport? or passport close to expiry?

i should be getting my new passport hopefully soon

Determining eligibility
Visitors are a class of temporary resident who are legally authorized to enter Canada temporarily to holiday, visit family, conduct business, etc. They are restricted in length of stay and are subject to various other conditions.

This application guide is for temporary residents who are already in Canada and wish to:

• extend their stay;
• change conditions of their stay; or
• correct problems in their status.

If your current temporary resident status is still valid you can apply for an extension of your stay. For any permit, you should always apply at least 30 days before your current status expires. Your original temporary status as a visitor continues under the same conditions until your application is finalized and you have been notified of the decision.

Note: The validity of your temporary resident status cannot exceed the validity of your passport. Therefore, you should ensure that your passport will be valid for at least the same amount of time as your requested extension.

They will refuse your extension application and tell you to leave Canada. No - they won't issue a TRP.

To add to scylla's reply:
You were already out-of-status when you applied for an extension..... as your status expired on July 14, you have exceeded the 90 days to restore your status.... and you don't have a valid travel document i.e. passport to leave the country

wrong, I contacted CIC I am still in status as I applied when my status expired before July 14 midnight...

I applied to extend my status on July 14 at 4pm, CIC confirmed yes this is implied status

Just wondering if they will just refuse the application or request for a passport

Hi! did you hear anything from CIC yet? im in a similiar situation. I apply to exntend my stay with my passport about to expire. i am waiting for my new passport but i havent heard from cic
