Hello my friends, I was wondering if anyone could kindly answer my question.

I applied a visitor extension for my mother and I was wondering if she will be asked to do a medical exam. My mother stayed in Canada for most of the time this year and last year, so I think she will be exempted from medical exam (because I saw from CIC website that for visitor extension, if the applicant stayed in a designated foreign country in the past year for longer than 6 months, then medical exam is required.)

According to this rule, my mother is exempted. However, I read from this forum that many people got medical exam request and was worried. Because of the pandemic, we visitors feel it would be safer in stay at home instead of going to clinics.

What is your opinions, my friends? Do you think CIC will ask for medical exam in my case? Thank you very much for your kind input and patience in advance!!

Please share experience of your visitor extension application results, especially if CIC did not ask for medical exam. In that case, how you got exempt from medical exam?

Thank you canuck78. If CIC asks for a medical exam, how can I apply for an exemption? I remember you said in another post that many successfully got the exemption. Is there an email address that I can use to ask for exemption?

Thank you again for your kind help.

There is no exemption. Stick to doctors offices and not hospitals. If she Is approved and wants to stay it is a requirement.

Thank you canuck78. I understand what you meant. However, during this pandemic, many people fear to go to clinics and hospitals because they might be exposed to danger of infecting Covid 19. I really hope government could make an exception for considering this special period for everyone and do not require a medical exam.

Again thank you for your kind input.

Given that covid levels are relatively low it isn’t a huge risk that would justify an exemption. If you or your mother is leaving your home you are being exposed to similar risks. You’ll have to wait and see if your mother gets a medical request. Visiting Canada is a privilege that comes with some requirements.

OK. Thank you very much for canuck78. Finger crossed that my mother is not asked for a medical exam. She did not stay in any country that requires medical exam for more than 2 month last year. I believe there is a possibility that CIC will not ask for an exam.

Think you need to reread the rules since your interpretation is not quite correct. Your mother wants to remain in Canada more than 6 months. She has already spent quite a long time in Canada and wouldn’t have a valid medical at this point. If she is asking to stay another 6 months she qualifies to be asked for a medical. Whether it will happen is unknown.

True. Government always have the final say and I will just do whatever they ask me to do. Thank you for taking the time to look into this!
