Hi!
I am a US citizen, and I was just granted an extension to stay in Canada as a visitor. The other day I recieved my visitor record and it states on there that it does not grant re-entry. It expires in October of 2015. My brother-in-law has invited my husband (a Canadian citizen) and I to the US for my sisters birthday, we'd like to stay for 4 days. I am concerned that I will not be allowed back into Canada. doing research on CIC, I am confused as to whether or not I would be turned away at the border. As much as I can gather, my visitor record is the same as a Temporary Resident. According to the CIC website;
"If you have a single-entry visa this allows you to enter Canada once. If you leave Canada during your authorized stay, you must get a new visitor visa to re-enter Canada, unless you visit the United States or St. Pierre and Miquelon. If you visit those places, you can return to Canada without a new visa, as long as you:
return within the period that the Canadian immigration officer initially authorized when you first entered Canada (on your visa, it is either a handwritten date or 6 months from the date of the entry stamp); or
have a valid visitor record, work permit, study permit or temporary resident permit (authorizing re-entry), and return within the period that the officer initially authorized."
This information was found on the page to extend your stay. I just want to confirm what I am understanding this information as I have read conflicting advise from other posts. My visitor record is basically a single-entry visa. I may leave Canada, not have to apply for another visitor record because I am visiting the states and will return way before my authorized stay stated on the visitor record I currently posess, and they will allow me back into Canada with my husband. I just don't want to be turned away at the border, after being happy that I am allowed to stay another 6 months.
