If you have a valid visit visa, I don't see why you cannot visit him and also perhaps extend your visit while you wait for the PR to come through. The only concern may be that you might be called for an interview wherever your application is being processed and you would have to return for the interview.

You could probably do an online course, or take a short course for less than 6 months (assuming of course that your visa is valid).
You will be applying for a visit visa while a permanent residence application is being processed, and so depending on your situation, they may or may not give you a visa because of dual intent. There are several people who have already discussed this issue of "dual intent" in great detail in these forums and you should browse through them.

In many cases short courses are ok, but.... If you get a visa extension, you will a receive visitor record, it will state what you are allowed to do.

She'll only get a visitor record if she is visa-exempt. That's the most important thing to find out before we can really say anything about the chances of her coming to Canada to visit.

Pelda - what country are you from? If you are visa-exempt, it's likely you can come to Canada to visit. You'll need to apply to extend your stay from within Canada if your authorized period is due to expire and you still don't have PR. You can take courses that are for a duration of less than six months - but you can't work. You can, however, volunteer - as long as the volunteering does not replace a job that someone would normally pay a Canadian to do.

If you're non-visa-exempt, it's not likely you'll be able to obtain a visitor visa being that you have a spouse in Canada and a PR ap in process. Having applied for permanent status, you won't be able to convince them that you only intend to stay temporarily.

Would that include something like being an unpaid intern for 3 or 4 months?

BTW I have a VR that states "Prohibited from attending any educational institution and taking any academic, professional or vocational training course."
