Hi!

I'm from Sweden (immigrated to Canada last year). I'm sponsoring my 12 year old son (outland). He will come to visit this summer. If while he is visiting his sponsorship is approved, does he have to leave and reenter the country or can we just go to the immigration office to get his passport stamped?

Appreciate any help or advise.

If he is visiting while they approve the outside Canada application, it's possible to land within Canada at the closest CIC office:

Once the visa office makes a positive decision, they request the passport. You'd have to mail it to them, and instruct them to mail it back to your address in Canada. Once you receive it back, along with the PR visa and COPR, you'd then call the CIC call centre to schedule an appointment for landing.

You said you immigrated last year, was your son listed as a non-accompanying dependent, and examined at the time you became a PR?

Yes he was. Thank you for your answer. My son want to come as soon as he finish school and now I can tell him it's ok.....will make both of us very happy :)
