Hi Forum Members,

I have a question, I have a visit visa valid till Dec 2009, but if my PR Visa comes through anytime before that then from what I understand I need to get the passport stamped with the PR Visa within 30 days( I think) from the day mentioned on the letter, but after getting the Visa stamped on my passport when visiting canada can I use my visit visa and keep my landing for a later time as I think I would have 1 year from the time I did my medicals which would be June 2010, this would give me additional time from when my Residence visa clock starts.

Other thought, will the Canadian consulate cancel my visit visa while I submit for my PR Visa stamping?

appreciate your inputs.

From what I understand; every clock starts from the date of your medicals - so you may not get any additional benefit.
However seniors can pour in their thoughts!

Secondly, (non-)cancelling of visitors visa would be to the discretion of IO.

Why wouldn't you use your PR visa instead????? you can still go back to your country and finish your untied business... and come back.
BTW any days spent using your TRV count as 1/2 day toward your citizenship but if you use your PR VISA it counts 1 full day toward your citizenship calculation.

Thanks for your inputs, the reason I was planning to use the Tourist visa is that, I may need to go just once to Canada for business purpose and don't need my family accompanying me, also if I do my landing just before my medicals expire(june 2010) my 5 year clock starts from that time( june 2010) instead of say October or November 2009.

Just to get those additional months before my 5 year clock starts.

One question I'm not sure if I have the right answer for it.
Once you are approved for PR visa wouldn't automatically cancelled the TRV that you have... or is it at the discretion of the IO at the port of entry....You should ask Leon this question because I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure you TRV would be cancelled once they issue PR visa....
Good luck !!!!

Thanks Marlena,

That's precisely what I am afraid of, since at the border they refuse my entry with Tourist visa and ask me to enter with my PR, then it will be an issue.

Seniors pls pitch in need your advice.

Thanks

Max

Marlena is true, once you got PR all TRV will cancel itself.
Its not in Canada, all over the world

Once your passport is stamped with PR visa your tourist visa will be marked 'Cancelled without prejudice' - meaning it is cancelled

Thanks to everyone.
