Hi,
My country doesn't normally need a visa when visiting Canada temporarily.
I've filed for PR under the FSWP this year, but plan to visit Canada for a couple of weeks soon.

Am I likely to get any problems at the border? I don't want them turning me away thinking I'm coming in permanently or something (I've heard people entering the US have had such problems).
Should I do anything to demonstrate I'm only visiting?!
Thanks for any advice!

i guess what you'll have to prepare (just in case you'll need to present) are documents backing up your claim that you are just visiting. these documents can be (but not limited to):

- letter from your employer (or supervisor) that you applied for a leave and is expected to report back to work on (specify date)
- other documents proving your ties with your originating country (land titles, properties under your name, etc)
- roundtrip ticket

these are some of the documents that would help prove that you do not have intentions in staying in Canada. not to discourage you though, i have read from other forumites that despite the exemption to acquire a visa before entering Canada, there are cases that they were still denied entry. what they suggest is that one must still apply for a visa because it will help you know if you are cleared that your FSWP application, for instance, won't cause you any issues (although like anyone else, the visa still is not a guarantee to enter Canada until an Immigration Officer says otherwise) and spare you from airline fares.

just my two cents. :)

I did the same this summer while a FSW application is pending (I am also visa exempt). There was no trouble at the Point of Entry (when arriving by plane), nor when crossing the land border from the US.

However, make sure that you can convince the officer that you are just visiting, e.g. by having sufficient funds, return ticket, etc. Answer any questions truthfully (about duration and reason for trip, when and where your return flight will leave). Usually they will know that you would not jeopardize your application by doing something stupid.

As said, I visited Canada several times during my FSW application. No problems getting in or out, I was visa exempt too.

Thanks guys, that helps and gives me some comfort! :)
I shall take some letters with me, in case I am asked.

Hi jigzyy,

I just noticed that and posted it in the other thread.

Thanks

For the benefit of future readers, I thought I would post to say that I had no difficulty coming in to visit Canada.

I think the computer probably did tell them I had an application (although it wasn't mentioned) because I was asked a few more questions about my purpose of visit, although nothing scary. I didn't need the paperwork I brought by way of evidence (though I was glad to have it).

Thanks for your replies folks - it was comforting to know it would be OK!
