hi,i have a friend from the UK that would like to visit me in Canada for a summer holiday.I would like to know what he would need to enter Canada other than a passport.i understand he does not require a visa as he is visa exempt. i will be providing lodge/accommodation.He will also have a return ticket. i've read a lot of conflicting info on different sites.also how long can he legally stay in Canada? and will he need proof of funds to show CIC officer whilst staying here? i never knew it would be so much trouble to visit here :(.anyone please..your help is much appreciated.

Depends on how long he is staying for. He could just say he is visiting Cananada seeing the sights and will be staying at backpackers hostels and they might not ask for much proof of income at att.

he would be staying for 6 weeks if possible? i'm just worried that he will be hassled at the port of entry:( if he has a return ticket 6 weeks from arrival.should it be ok?

They will likely ask for more evidence that he has the ability to support himself for 6 weeks in Canada. It would be better I think if he were to get a changeable ticket and change it once he is here to the different day. He could say he is staying for a week. As long as they don't put a date on the stamp in the passport he can stay for 6 months from the date of entry.

Ignore above post about changing the ticket. As your friend is a visa-exempt British citizen, he is very low risk and will have no issues visiting for 6 weeks. His return ticket should be fine but you can advise him to bring a bank statement to show funds just in case they ask. If they do ask, he should make sure to say that he will be staying with you for free the entire time.

I'm sure it will. My UK boyfriend visited several times, for several weeks, sometimes without even a return ticket. They never asked for anything from him, not even proof of funds.

mind you he will have cash coming here.i am just concerned if they ask him about his strong ties to the UK because to be frank he doesn't have much:/.no job at the moment.one family member..his uncle who he lives with...perhaps i need to worry or i'm worrying for nothing as per usual.:(

For a visit of six weeks of a British citizen with a return ticket, immigration probably won't even ask those questions. They would only really ask those questions if he had no return ticket and said he was staying for several months or if he wasn't visa-exempt.
