Hi,

I will soon fly to Canada to visit my wife who lives in Canada to spend time with her while I wait for my PR application to be processed.

I will be staying around 5 months. I want to be ready to show at the border that I have sufficient savings in the bank account to support myself financially.

How much money do you suggest is enough?

I have some money in a checking account, some money in Premium Bonds (in UK) and some money in stocks (ETF funds). Do only the money in the checking account count as means of support or also the money in the PBs and ETF? The money in the PBs and ETF would be available in my checking account within 2 working days of withdrawing them.

It depends. Who is going to pay for food/Travel/Medical etc. I guess you wont have any boarding expenses. If you do not have any boarding expenses then atleast 1K CAD per month. More is better.

Also have a letter from your wife that she is going to sponsor you.

Have a good Travel medical insurance health care could be expensive if you are not on the provincial health care.

Can I ask what you showed in terms of home ties to your country in your application? Also, how far along was your PR application before you applied for TRV? Had you travelled previously a lot?

thanks.

Thanks, I would only have to pay for food and leisure activities. Would the money in the Premium Bonds count as means of support given that when I withdraw them they arrive in my checking account in 2 days? Or only the money in the checking account count?

preference is given to money in bank account and not to the one in investments. you should have good amount avaialble in bank account.

What nature are the premium bonds? are they like bank fixed deposits or listed on a stock exchange?

do mention in your application that the money in the PBs and ETF is not illiquid, prefernce is given to liquid funds available with the applicant.

Also advise you to apply for lower duration and not 5 months, for each entry in canada, u can stay for a total of 6 months time period. so the more u apply for a duration closer to 6 months, u require to show more funds and ur application is scrutinised more. so reduce the period in ur application.
