Visiting Canada for 3 Months (from USA). Proof required?

Hi all, my American Fiance wants to visit me for three months.

The plan is that I will fly down there for the weekend, and we will drive up to Canada together. He would like to stay for three months.

What type of proof does he need so that the border will not give him a hard time / will allow him entry into the country?

I've heard he needs a bank statement - do they actually CALL the bank or do they just need a print out?
Also heard he needs a letter from his employer...is this entirely required?

I will gladly write him a letter stating he will be returning to the USA and his family will write him a letter as well.

Hi! My understanding is all he needs to show is proof of ties in the US. This could be a lease agreement, bills in his name, a letter from his employer stating it's a 3 month vacation, proof that he paid for university that starts in the fall, etc. I don't think bank statements matter, I just opened an account in Canada and I don't live there. Also, I don't think letters will mean anything. Americans can visit for up to 6 months on a visitor record. He should be fine if he can show proof of ties back to the US, but for any reason the immigration offer sees fit he can be turned away. HTH!

proof of ties can be employment letter, rental agreement, return ticket. rest its upto the cbsa ...
if he would he is visiting you then i guess could be a problem. they would think you would like to marry ahead or can be like he would stay in canada for a longer period of time.
sometimes its just the luck,, cbsa dont ask anything and sometimes tons of questions

A lot depends on how you present yourself before cbsa.
- Carrying too much luggage
- Plans to stay for a longer duration than a typical 'vacation' a company would allow
- Lack of a valid reason to visit Canada

These are all indications that a person might overstay their 6 month limit. Its best to travel light, tell your fiance is here for a 3 weeks and that the two of you would like to participate in a family occasion. The documents you'd be carrying are for 'worst-case scenarios'. Keep it handy, but don't fret over it.

If he is a US Citizen or US Green Card holder all he need is his US Passport or US Green Card. In any other case he will need a Visitor Visa unless he is from a Visa Exempt Country. If he is from Visa Exempt country then he needs his valid passport.
