Can anyone help me? My husband is a watercolour artist, British but living in France since 2008. He would like to run a watercolour course for five days whilst taking a ten-day holiday with his sister who lives in BC. He envisages having 10 – 20 local students on the non-residential course who would pay a deposit of 25% before the course starts and the balance could be paid either before he arrives in Canada or on the first day of the course. Would he need a visa, if so can anyone advise where to apply and tell me how much it would be?

Certainly if there is anyone paying him, it will pretty much mean he is working. So in my opinion he would need permission to do this.
I assume he is not being employed to do this for someone in Canada?

Guest speakers, commercial speakers or seminar leaders can speak or deliver training in Canada without a work permit as long as the event is no longer than five days.
I think he would count as a seminar leader as he would be delivering training. If this course comes off, he could do a tour of Canada giving courses of up to five days as each one would be a separate event. Fantastic!

I know that as a business visitor I have been very restricted in what I was allowed to do.
Maybe a call to the embassy or CIC helpline would be a good idea.
