I m a canadian citizen living in canada and my boyfriend is a pakistani national on student visa in UK. I have known him for about a year and would like him to come here on visit visa for us to get married-maximum 2-3 weeks stay.I haven met him in person as of yet. My question is first of all, is it possible for him to come here on visit visa to get married and go back? What documents does he require and how long that might take? Also, does any law require you to have met prior to the wedding? Does he need any bank statements? What could be the possible road blocks? any other suggestions are much appreciated!

I don't mean to be judgemental in my post, but with all the seat sales in past months, I am incredulous that you haven't been to England to visit this fellow to see if it is your destiny to be together. As an international student in the UK, I think your boyfriend could face some serious challenges to prove he has strong ties to his home country in order to obtain a TRV.

Hello Azak
Dont even try it at this stage, because you will mess up your fiancee visa chances..
You have to go and visit him, minimum 2X... it is assumed by the officer that your
proposed marriage is a sham, if you havent met the person face to face.

PLEASE, PLEASEeeee....since you are a citizen, go and visit him and take some photos together etc

Goodluck!!!

Thanks for replying much appreciated! i have been planning to visit him but my plans kinda kept falling apart so i was thinking this as an option. Also, i dont think i fully understand you ,why does he has to show strong ties to his home country ,when he will be returning to uk to complete his studies until 2014-given he is approved of his tourist visa.

You might find it useful to go to the top of the main forum page and put in the white SEARCH box "TRV Refusal" or other things like that. Read everything you can about refusals so you can avoid the same pitfalls. Being a student, unemployed, without much in the way of assets, and resident outside your country of origin is a very weak position from which to prove you are solidly tied to your home. That is why your boyfriend is being advised not to apply for TRV until he is in a strong position. Everytime you apply and get refused it seems to make it harder to succeed, and there is no point in applying until one is able to overcome the reasons for refusal. STRONG TIES seem to be the number one reason for refusal, as they reassure the authorities that you have good reason not to stay in Canada past the expiry of the visa. There has to be a compelling reason for the visit as well, but saying he is coming here to get married is likely to lead to a refusal on the grounds he will not leave. Good luck with your decisions.

One important factor to remember is that your case will be judged by an immigration officer and on evidence you submit. You might think your relationship is genuine but think it from immigration officers' view point, who are trying to catch fraudulent entries. If you are considering to sponsor him later, it is best to establish face-to-face relationship. Marriage alone does not guarantee the success. Good luck.

Thanks pippin! another question i have, let say if have visited him and met him couple times and then if he wants to apply for TVR for here ,are the chances any better for him? Also, on the other hand, let say if he DOES get approval for TVR, is it oky to get married once you come on TVR or do you have to explain them before applying that you're visiting due to the intent of marriage?

God bless you all!!

I agree, better u visit him before you bring your fiancee here in Canada. Less chance if you will try to get him enter Canada since there is no strong proof/ evidence that you guys are in a relationship. COmmunication will not suffice and encourage the Visa Officer to approve you.

Pictures.. Tons of pictures taken in just one visit wont even be encouraging for the Visa Officer. You need to show proofs that the relationship is real and genuine. There are lots of rejection on a short period of relationship. Less evidence of strong relationship bond.

Communication.. They will check the dates of when you started communicating too..

Intention.. Visit? But how are you related to each other? You need to prove that.

STRONG TIES... This is the most important one. HE should declare everything.. work, studies, relatives.. business etc. But marriage to you even his relatives are all back home, even he has a multi national business and or has a very huge amount of savings. That will not be considered. As he is coming to see you and marry you. Regardless of what he has back home, you are stronger ties than everything else. So he might get REJECTED.

I am also in same kind of a situation. It's really a very frustrating process. God knows what's the immigration officers has view point on this.

I think if you state the purpose of his/ her visit as "getting married", the application will be denied regardless of how genuine the relationship is. The reason being that you have to satisfy the officer that you will leave canada at the end of your visit. Getting married to a canadian opens up the possibility of never leaving (apply for PR via inland process) and quite frankly, most take that route.

So from a visa officer's point of view, he is not satisfied that you will leave canada after getting married.

I've read of cases where US citizens are not allowed into the country at the slightest hint that they are in a relationship with a canadian and could possibly get married and not leave the country.

It might be worth considering getting married in the UK and then sponsoring him.

LOL, Just Do It, with a nickname like yours, I am not surprised at your suggestion and must admit, the same thought came to me.
