Hi,
My visit pass will expire this august 20 and i already made an application to extend it for another 6 months or more. I had a baby 5 months ago, and i am on a maternity leave right now until december this year, i am currently living with the father of my child for 7 months, unfortunately we can declare common law yet until december and thats the reason why i have to extend my stay as a visitor. in my application, he wrote a letter stating that he'll be responsible for helping me have the permanent residency status here in Canada by sponsoring me under common law/spousal sponsorship.
now, my questions are : do we have a big chance of having it approved?, if not , what is the next step that we should do?
one more question, this might seem irrelevant to my situation, but what if the person applies for a visa extension less than 30 days before the previous one expires, what would happen?

Personal experience here.

1) I applied for a visit permit when my work permit had nearly expired so that I could remain in Canada whilst we applied for PR. We did mention in the Letter of Explanation that we were intending to apply for PR, but only briefly, and only as we thought some context may be useful where I was switching from a WP to a VP.

2) We sent a bunch of proofs of funds. Immigration want to see that you have enough money to support yourself AND/OR that your spouse/someone will cover any additional financial needs - we sent copies of paystubs (for me to show previous earning) and bank statements in addition to a copy of a signed letter from my spouse declaring that she would cover my expenses should the need arise. They want to be sure that you won't try and work etc.

3) We applied with about two weeks left on my work permit. When your permit expires, you will have implied status provided your application is received prior to your old permit expiring until you hear back about your application for an extension. If the extension is approved - excellent. If not, you will be out of status and then need to apply for restoration of status. Again, once your permit expires you are on implied status until a decision is made.

Hope that helps.
