After five years within the country, we had a night visit with canadian immigration agents. They first stated that off the bat, you know why we are here? i actually didnt and thought they were with local police about a matter with my vehicle i had reported in. They said no we are here about your wife and her five year over stay, and it was at that point he said, they only wanted to chat with us together. We were told politely that they wanted to give us some time to begin the legal process for inland sponsorship with the wife right away, they gave us two week window and said they could extend it if he feels there is progress made, he said that the next steps are extremely important , that we need to start the process with the paper work with an lawyer who can contact him or we have to show we started the process for immigration. We are without any identification due to it being stolen and was in the process of replacing the passport, we told them, he said that he cant delay his report for that but as long as we get an lawyer , he could. He said very clearly that if he did write his report prior to my wife sending her paper work in, she would not be heard and she would have to leave the country. We asked what would happen and what was the right thing to do. He was very clear he didnt see us as any security threat or risk and said it was clear we had an family and the relationship was legitimate and he wanted to give us some time to set things right before he gave his report. Which he said after he sends it in after we apply , they have 60 days to review and hear our hearing rather than 18 months and he said that at the end of that they may be able to get your wife proper legal status. My question, was this rare moment and a blessing in disguise despite the risk, or what should we do to make sure my wife can stay in the country,
