Actually, SOP has nothing to do with your visa unless its a listed requirement by the local CHC. In any case, your mark sheet with grades on it, is your best SOP.

Letter of explanation is not a compulsory document...but you can (should in your case) use it to to explain your two years gap... and other things like ties to the home country...bla bla bla.... I had a one year gap and I used the letter of explanation to convince the officers why I am going for master's (provided they actually read my LOE ) in Canada..
